The Tecno Pouvoir 1 is the first in a series of battery-focused smartphones recently launched, albeit quietly, by Tecno Mobile. Pouvoir is the French word for Power, which means the smartphones in this series will pack enough power to satisfy the daily smartphone needs of consumers in regions where epileptic power supply is the norm.

The Tecno Pouvoir 1 already has a successor, the Tecno Pouvoir 2 released recently into the market. The highlights of the device include a monstrous 5,000mAh battery that can get you going for up to two days, and a dedicated hardware button that can be used to perform different functions. The only thing missing here is a fingerprint scanner.

Design & Display

The Tecno Pouvoir 1 comes with a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display which has an HD (720 * 1,280) pixel resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio, like most smartphones launched by the OEM in recent times, although it's not as bezel-less as the Tecno Camon X.

The phone bears a resemblance to the Tecno Camon X and uses capacitive buttons for navigation. Its thickness of 8.8 millimetres is reasonable when you consider its large battery size.

Storage & Performance

The Tecno Pouvoir 1 is powered by a MediaTek MT6580 processor which runs on four cores (quad-core) and at a maximum speed of 1.3GHz, and is assisted in terms of graphics processing by a Mali-400 MP GPU.

The smartphone comes with 1GB of RAM for multi-tasking and has 16GB of onboard storage which can be expanded up to 32GB with the use of an external microSD card.

Battery & Camera

The Tecno Pouvoir 1 packs a 5,000mAh battery that guarantees a usage time of up to two days on heavy use, and even more than that with monitored use. It doesn't come with fast charging, however, meaning you'll have to wait a long while to get it from 0 to 100%.

The smartphone sports an 8MP camera with dual-LED flash and autofocus on the rear, while a 5MP camera at the front produces selfies, brightened with the aid of a LED flash present beside it.

Connectivity & Software

The Pouvoir 1 runs on Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box with Tecno's HiOS layered on top for extra software features. It comes with a dual Nano SIM slot but doesn't support 4G LTE network connectivity.

Design & Display

The Tecno Pouvoir 2 imitates recently-launched Tecno devices in terms of display size, featuring a 6-inch IPS LCD display which has an HD+ (720 * 1,440) pixel resolution, like the Tecno Camon X Pro. It also has an 18:9 aspect ratio which makes the phone seem not all that big.

The smartphone's bezels are at a minimum, and it has a metal unibody design that gives it a premium look and feel. The device is just 8.5 millimetres thick, despite its humongous battery capacity, and sports a fingerprint scanner placed below the LED flash on the rear.

Storage & Performance

The Tecno Pouvoir 2 is powered under the hood by a quad-core 1.3GHz processor and Mali-400 GPU. The processor is unnamed, but it's most likely one made by MediaTek.

The device comes with 2GB of RAM for multi-tasking and has 16GB of internal storage onboard, which can be expanded up to 128GB with the use of an external microSD card.

Battery & Camera

The Tecno Pouvoir 2 packs a 5,000mAh battery that can power the device for more than two days before requiring a recharge. This is the largest battery capacity we've seen on a Tecno device so far, but it's quite very disappointing that it doesn't come with a fast-charging mechanism; now you'll have to charge the phone for upward of four hours in order to get it to 100%.

The Pouvoir 2 sports a 13MP camera with autofocus and dual-tone LED flash on the rear, while an 8MP camera helps to take selfies with a basic bokeh effect at the front. The phone also comes with a software feature that allows you to unlock and lock the phone (and apps) with face recognition, similar to FaceID on high-end smartphones.

Connectivity & Software

The Tecno Pouvoir 2 comes with a dual micro-SIM slot and supports 4G LTE network connectivity. It runs on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with Tecno's custom UI for its Android smartphones, HiOS layered on top.

Infinix Hot S3 vs Tecno Camon CX - Similarities and Differences

Design & Display

The Camon CX was launched at a time when 18:9 aspect ratio and the word "bezel-less" didn't mean much in smartphones, and thus has a design that's quite 2017-ish, though still good-looking. The Hot S3, on the other hand, has a modern design with minimal bezels and an 18:9 aspect ratio. Design-wise the Hot S3 wins.

The Camon CX excels when it comes to build quality, though; it has a metal unibody design that gives it a premium feel, unlike the Hot S3 that's made of plastic and has an aluminium alloy frame.

Coming to display, the Infinix Hot S3 is larger (5.7 inches) than the Tecno Camon CX (5.5 inches), but the difference in aspect ratio means the former is more comfortable to hold and use than the latter.

The Hot S3 disappoints in terms of display quality, as it comes with an HD+ (720 x 1,440) resolution in contrast to the Camon CX's Full HD (1,080 x 1,920) resolution. Considering that the Hot S3's display is larger than that of the Camon CX, the pixel resolution should have been bumped farther up.

Performance & Memory

The 1.5GHz MediaTek MT6750T processor on the Camon CX does a good job of keeping the smartphone running smoothly without lags throughout the day, but the Hot S3 has an edge with it Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor which offers better power efficiency and smoother performance, even though it runs at a slightly lower 1.4GHz maximum speed.

Multi-tasking is more efficient on the Hot S3 with 3GB of RAM compared to 2GB present on the Camon CX, and you have more space to store your files on the Infinix smartphone which comes with 32GB of storage than on the Tecno device that has 16GB by default.

Camera

The Infinix Hot S3 is selfie-centric, coming with a 20MP camera on the front and a 13MP on the rear. The Tecno Camon CX is more balanced, sporting 16MP cameras on both sides. Both produce good images in outdoor conditions, but the front camera on the Hot S3 performs better in low-light conditions while the Camon CX's rear camera outputs images with better clarity and less noise in low-light conditions.

The front camera on the Hot S3 can produce bokeh effects on selfies, a feature the Camon CX doesn't have. You also have Face ID and 4x zoom on the rear with the Hot S3, but the ring flash on the rear of the Tecno Camon CX beats that on the Infinix Hot S3.

Battery

The Hot S3 comes with a larger 4,000mAh battery capacity, but the absence of fast charging makes it take more time (around three hours) to charge than the 3,200mAh battery on the Camon CX which charges in a little less than two hours.

Software

Android 7.0 Nougat was the thing when the Camon CX was launched, but it hasn't been updated to the latest version of Android since. The Hot S3 runs on the latest Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box, sporting more features and software optimizations.

The Infinix Hot S3 also comes with Face ID, an alternative way of unlocking your smartphone. Though it uses just the front camera and might not be very secure, it's an additional layer of security that the Camon CX doesn't have.

Conclusion

The Infinix Hot S3 has more features than the Camon CX, but that's understandable considering that both smartphones have a whole year between them. It also costs even less than the Camon CX was when it was launched, so it's a worthy upgrade if you're thinking of getting yourself one.

Tecno launched its first smartphone of 2018, the Tecno Camon CM early in January, but it was apparent that it wasn't the flagship Camon device of the year as last year's Camon CX came with better specs. We speculated that it was a fore-runner sent to proclaim the bezel-less gospel, and were proven right when Tecno Mobile announced two more phones in the Camon series early in April.

The Tecno Camon X Pro is the higher variant of these and was announced alongside the Tecno Camon X, a device that shares its outward looks and many of its internal specs, but lags behind a  bit in the camera and memory departments.

The Camon X Pro comes with a speaker and micro-USB port underneath, a fingerprint sensor on the rear with the camera and LED flash and a micro-USB port on top.

After observing the Tecno Boom J8 we surely agree that it packs some improvements over its predecessor, the design is premium and the feel too should be that way considering its material build, however we are waiting for the moments when these manufacturers will produce an awesome design without copying the likes of iPhone 6, either ways this design should be another reason why users will love the Boom J8.

Secondly and in conclusion, we noticed a special headset, the Boom player headset, which looks visibly big and should produce quality sound for Music, we also found Tecno had finally installed its own custom UI based on Android OS known as  HiOS user interface, this new innovation is present in the Tecno Boom J8 hence users should expect a whole new level of experience when using the device.
